Tenecteplase vs Alteplase and Time to Treatment for Acute Ischemic Stroke

Is the use of tenecteplase, compared with alteplase, associated with reduced door-to-needle (DTN) and door-in-door-out (DIDO) times in patients with acute ischemic stroke?In this registry-based cohort study involving 133 228 patients across 2092 US hospitals, tenecteplase treatment was associated with significantly shorter DTN times and, for patients transferred for higher level of care after thrombolytic administration, shorter DIDO times. DTN times were also faster among hospitals that switched from alteplase to tenecteplase during the study period.These findings suggest that tenecteplase use may enhance workflow efficiency for thrombolysis and interfacility transfer in acute ischemic stroke, further supporting its use for ischemic stroke.
