Diagnosis-to-Ablation Time and Atrial Arrhythmia Recurrence After Ablation

Is the time interval from atrial fibrillation (AF) diagnosis to catheter ablation associated with atrial arrhythmia recurrence?In this cohort study including 3724 patients, after adjustment for relevant clinical covariates, longer time from AF diagnosis to ablation was associated with higher atrial arrhythmia recurrence risk. Compared with patients treated less than 1 year after diagnosis, those treated 1 to 4 years after diagnosis had a 48% higher risk of recurrence, and those treated more than 5 years after diagnosis had a 110% higher risk.These findings suggest that clinicians should consider recommending earlier intervention after diagnosis regardless of AF type.
