What is the association between interval salpingectomy with delayed oophorectomy (ISDO) and sexual function compared with risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy (RRSO) in individuals at high risk for ovarian cancer? In this nonrandomized clinical trial of 426 premenopausal patients planning risk reduction surgery, a significantly lower proportion of those undergoing ISDO experienced clinically meaningful worsening of sexual function (17% at 6 months and 18% at 12 months post surgery) compared with those undergoing RRSO (33% at 6 months and 39% at 12 months). This finding was no longer statistically significant after 24 months. These finding suggest that ISDO may be less likely to impair sexual function than RRSO and that more information is needed to establish the safety of ISDO for ovarian cancer prevention.
