Prefrontal Transcranial Pulse Stimulation for Major Depressive Disorder

What are the therapeutic and neural effects of transcranial pulse stimulation in the treatment of major depressive disorder?In this randomized clinical trial of 80 patients with major depressive disorder, active transcranial pulse stimulation of the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex produced significantly greater antidepressant efficacy and significantly increased resting-state functional connectivity between the stimulation target and multiple brain regions compared with sham stimulation.These findings suggest that transcranial pulse stimulation is a safe and effective therapy for major depressive disorder, with underlying neuromodulating effects.
