Is treatment with sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors associated with reduced risk of dementia and other neuropsychiatric outcomes among people with mood and psychotic disorders? In this cohort study of 112 725 patients using data from the US Department of Veterans Affairs health care system, exposure to an SGLT2 inhibitor was associated with a significantly lower risk of incident all-cause dementia and psychiatric emergency department visits. These findings support further research into the benefits of SGLT2 inhibitors in individuals with psychiatric disorders and a potential shared metabolic mechanism underlying psychiatric disorders and dementia.
