Exposure to Air Pollutants and Lewy Body and Parkinson Disease–Related Dementias

Is exposure to ambient particulate matter with a diameter less than 2.5 µm (PM) and nitrogen dioxide () associated with increased risk of dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) and Parkinson disease–related dementia (PDD)?In this case-control study including 3024 individuals with DLB and 3808 individuals with PDD matched with 30 240 and 38 080 controls, respectively, greater exposure to ambient PM or was associated with significantly increased risk of DLB and PDD. The magnitude of the observed association was stronger for risk of DLB than PDD.These findings suggest that exposure to ambient PM and may increase risk of DLB and PDD.
