Economic Evaluation of Oral Nirmatrelvir-Ritonavir for COVID-19 in Higher Risk Outpatients

Is treatment with oral nirmatrelvir-ritonavir cost-effective compared with usual care for higher risk outpatients with COVID-19 in the UK?In this economic evaluation, the value for money of oral nirmatrelvir-ritonavir differed across population risk strata, with favorable economic outcomes concentrated among individuals at higher clinical risk in a highly vaccinated setting.These results suggest that routine prescribing of nirmatrelvir-ritonavir is unlikely to be cost-effective in older adults, but targeted use in clearly defined high-risk groups may represent a more efficient strategy for the health system.
