Factors Associated With First Occurrences of Child Maltreatment in Military Families

What factors are associated with first occurrences of 4 child maltreatment types (neglect and physical, emotional, and sexual abuse) in service member families?In this cohort study of 618 101 active duty service member families, families with a female service member, a young service member at the transition to parenthood, 3 or more children, and never-deployed status had greater risk of all maltreatment types.These findings suggest that tailored prevention efforts are needed to address risk conditions in families with female service members, young service member parents, a larger family size, and never-deployed service members.
