Is the use of sodium-glucose cotransporter–2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) associated with improved cardiorenal and hepatic outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and liver cirrhosis? In this cohort study of 24 259 patients with T2D and cirrhosis, SGLT2is were associated with decreased risk of end-stage kidney disease, acute kidney injury, major adverse cardiovascular events, and all-cause mortality during a median follow-up of 2.3 years. SGLT2is were also associated with reduced risk of hepatic decompensation events, with consistent results across sensitivity and subgroup analyses. These findings suggest that SGLT2is may provide significant cardiorenal and hepatic protection for patients with coexisting T2D and liver cirrhosis.
