Early Intervention Developmental Programming and Childhood Academic Outcomes

Is receipt of early intervention (EI) services before 3 years of age associated with performance on standardized testing among children in third grade?In this cohort study including 13 022 children who received EI, receipt of EI services before 3 years of age was associated with greater test scores in English language arts and increased incidence of meeting curricula-based test standards in both math and English language arts in third grade.These findings suggest that an EI program may have tangible academic benefits for children who have moderate to severe developmental delays or disabilities and are living in a large urban center.
