Atopic Disease Development in Offspring Conceived via Assisted Reproductive Technology

Is conception via assisted reproductive technology (ART) associated with an increased risk of atopic disease development in offspring?In this cohort study of 69 785 children born in Taiwan between 2004 and 2014, those conceived through ART had a significantly higher risk of developing asthma, allergic rhinitis, or atopic dermatitis compared with those conceived naturally.These findings highlight the need for long-term surveillance of children conceived via ART as well as a need for further research into the underlying mechanisms by which ART may contribute to atopic disease development.
