Infrapatellar Fat Pad Glucocorticoid Injection in Knee Osteoarthritis

Is the administration of glucocorticoid injections into the infrapatellar fat pad (IPFP) effective and safe for individuals with inflammatory knee osteoarthritis (OA)?This randomized clinical trial of 60 patients found that the treatment group, compared with the placebo group, did not experience a statistically significant reduction in visual analog scale pain scores (−39.3 mm vs −31.4 mm). Both groups showed a reduction in effusion volume, with no significant between-group difference.The negative finding of this intra-IPFP glucocorticoid injections trial suggests further work is needed to identify effective interventions in patients with inflammatory knee OA.
