Cannabis Use and Nicotine Vaping Cessation Outcomes

Is cannabis use frequency or cannabis use disorder symptom severity associated with nicotine vaping cessation outcomes among adolescents and young adults?In this secondary analysis of a randomized clinical trial including 261 youth aged 16 to 25 years, baseline cannabis use frequency and cannabis use disorder symptom severity were not significantly associated with nicotine vaping abstinence at 12 weeks. The effectiveness of varenicline plus behavioral support for nicotine vaping cessation did not differ by cannabis use patterns.These results suggest that cannabis use does not appear to hinder nicotine vaping cessation, suggesting varenicline remains effective for youth regardless of cannabis co-use.
