What is the association between unhealthy alcohol use and viral suppression among people living with HIV reentering the community after incarceration in Zambia? In this cohort study following 295 people living with HIV after prison release, postrelease unhealthy alcohol use was significantly associated with having an unsuppressed viral load and losing viral suppression (among those with suppressed viral load prerelease) at follow-up.These findings suggest new care models are needed to address both substance use and HIV care continuity in this population.
