Do adults with serious mental illnesses (schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or recurrent major depressive disorder) have an increased risk of developing postacute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 (PASC)?This cohort study of 1.6 million patients found that adults with serious mental illnesses had increased adjusted odds of developing PASC. Older individuals and those with non-Hispanic Black or Hispanic race and ethnicity, public health insurance, higher chronic disease burden, and greater severity of the initial COVID-19 infection had higher odds of PASC.These results suggest the need for coordinated approaches that simultaneously treat and seek to prevent PASC among adults with serious mental illnesses.
