Is restless leg syndrome (RLS) associated with an increased risk of developing Parkinson disease (PD)?In this nationwide population-based cohort study, 9919 patients with RLS showed a statistically significantly higher risk of developing PD than those without RLS. Patients with RLS who were not treated with dopamine agonists showed a shorter time to PD diagnosis, whereas those who were treated with dopamine agonist showed longer time to PD diagnosis. This study suggests that RLS is associated with an increased risk of PD, and the association may involve mechanisms beyond the dopaminergic pathway.
