How do the Predicting Risk of Cardiovascular Disease Events (PREVENT) and Pooled Cohort Equation (PCE) models perform in estimating 10-year atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk when accounting for statin therapy exposure? In this cohort study including 193 885 patients, among patients who were not exposed to statins during follow-up, PREVENT underestimated risk, whereas PCE provided estimates that more closely matched observed ASCVD risk. This cohort study found that compared with the PREVENT estimates, PCE estimates more closely reflected what a patient’s ASCVD risk would be without statin therapy.
