Does the end-tidal carbon dioxide (EtCO) capnography trend differ by type of advanced airway device placed and does this difference affect outcomes of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest? In this secondary analysis involving 1113 participants in the Pragmatic Airway Resuscitation Trial, EtCO values over resuscitation duration were not different by advanced airway device. The type of advanced airway device interacted with the EtCO capnography trend; however, both devices had similar ability to estimate return-of-spontaneous circulation in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.Findings of this study suggest that EtCO capnography trends during resuscitation are directly associated with outcomes in both laryngeal tube and endotracheal intubations.
