Are there differences in the risk of adverse liver events between male and female patients with cirrhosis? In this cohort study of 438 706 adult patients with cirrhosis, male sex (compared with female sex) was significantly associated with higher risk of decompensated cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, and liver transplant..These findings suggest that sex-based approaches should be considered for monitoring and management of adult patients with cirrhosis for potential interventions in the risk of adverse liver events.
