Racially Minoritized Families’ Perspectives on Barriers and Facilitators to Pediatric Dermatology Care

What are the barriers and facilitators of racially and/or ethnically minoritized families in accessing pediatric dermatology care?In this qualitative study of 32 parents from racially and ethnically minoritized communities (American Indian or Alaska Native, Black, and/or Hispanic), families described barriers and facilitators to receiving dermatology care. They provided recommendations on how the hospital system and the medical team can better support them and improve access to dermatology care in their communities.These findings suggest that minoritized families have unique experiences when accessing pediatric dermatology care, underscoring the need for systemic changes to promote health equity and improve patient-centered care.
