How can clinicians efficiently identify adult patients with dermatomyositis (DM) with a high likelihood of concomitant cancer? In this cohort study of 546 adults with DM or clinically amyopathic DM, 5 factors significantly associated with concomitant cancers, including anti–transcriptional intermediary factor 1-γ antibody, interstitial lung disease, poikiloderma, DM subtype, and anemia, were identified and used to construct the TIP-CA predictive model, which demonstrated strong performance, with high scores (4-5) indicating a markedly elevated probability of cancer. This clinician-friendly tool, integrating multidisciplinary cohorts and applying machine learning, enhanced association-based cancer screening and its generalizability across diverse clinical settings, potentially improving early detection and outcomes in patients with DM.
