Do gene fusions characterize aggressive cytotoxic behavior of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL)?In this single–cancer center case-series of 43 adult patients with CTCL with gene fusions, 38 (88%) had mycosis fungoides (MF), CD30-positive lymphoproliferative disorders (LPD) or overlap presentations; only 5 cases (11.6%) of aggressive CTCL were identified. Neither mutational burden, type, or fusion partner distinguished indolent from aggressive CTCL. fusions should not be interpreted unequivocally as aggressive markers in CTCL because it can be present in patients without aggressive cytotoxic disease; JAK2 may be a potentially therapeutic target in early MF and CD30-positive LPD.
