Patient-Reported Outcome Measures and Validation Data Used in Melanoma Research and Routine Practice

What patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are commonly used in melanoma research and clinical practice, and are these PROMs validated for use in melanoma populations?In this systematic review including 32 784 participants from 124 studies that used 110 unique PROMs, only 17 PROMs (15%) had any melanoma-specific validation data available. Only the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy–Melanoma questionnaire had melanoma-specific validation data available for all 8 psychometric variables of interest.This review found 17 PROMs with melanoma-specific validation data available; when using PROMs in individuals diagnosed with melanoma, preference should be placed on using one of these.
