Exercise Performance With Aficamten vs Metoprolol in Obstructive Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

How do the effects of aficamten compare to the effects of metoprolol across comprehensive exercise measures in obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (oHCM)?In the phase 3 MAPLE-HCM randomized clinical trial, 175 patients with symptomatic oHCM received aficamten or metoprolol monotherapy for 24 weeks. Aficamten and metoprolol had divergent effects on exercise performance that favored aficamten across all phases of exercise compared to metoprolol.Aficamten treatment favorably impacted a broad array of exercise measures in comparison to metoprolol in this study and merits consideration for first line therapy for patients with symptomatic oHCM.
