In patients with dilated cardiomyopathy, is papillary muscle scarring detected by a novel dark blood magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique associated with subsequent cardiac death? In this single-center cohort study of 470 patients followed up to 8 years, papillary muscle scarring detected by MRI was strongly associated with cardiac death and provided incremental prognostic value.A novel dark blood MRI technique detected papillary muscle scarring in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy, and in these patients, the finding was associated with worse prognosis.
