Outcomes of Cardiovascular Surgery in Patients With Multiple Sclerosis

Is multiple sclerosis (MS) associated with adverse cardiovascular surgery outcomes?In this nationwide US cross-sectional study of almost 2 million records of patients who underwent cardiovascular surgery, there were no differences in mortality and the composite complication end point at admission between patients with and without MS. Discharge disposition differed, with a lower prevalence of routine home discharges in the MS cohort (28% vs 36%).These findings suggest that cardiovascular surgery in patients with MS is not associated with increased morbidity and mortality at admission, but the prevalence of routine home discharges is lower in this population.
