Structure of the Genetic Risks for Psychiatric Disorders in Swedish Population-Based Registries

What is the structure of genetic risk factors for 18 diverse psychiatric and substance use disorders assessed in a single population with high-quality registries?Using family-genetic risk scores, this population-based study applied explanatory and confirmatory oblique factor analysis to split-half samples. The best fit model identified 6 correlated genetic factors: psychotic disorders, externalizing disorders, anxiety disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, mood disorders, and eating disorders.An epidemiological ascertainment frame uncovered a structure of genetic risks for a large set of psychiatric disorders, which was, compared with prior efforts, similar in many ways but also showed important differences by demonstrating an independent anxiety disorder factor and a closer relationship of bipolar disorder to the mood disorders factor.
