Cervical Cancer Screening With Human Papillomavirus Self-Collection Testing in an Opioid Treatment Program

Can human papillomavirus (HPV) self-collection testing for cervical cancer screening be offered in the setting of an opioid treatment program (OTP)? In this cohort study of 194 patients in an OTP, HPV self-collection testing for cervical cancer screening was implemented into the annual wellness visit. There were high eligibility and uptake rates: of the patients assessed for screening, 89.7% were eligible and 90.8% completed specimen self-collection. The findings suggest that incorporating cervical cancer screening using HPV self-collection testing was feasible and highly accepted by patients in an OTP.
