Intraarterial Dexamethasone for Pain Relief After Uterine Fibroid Embolization

Does intraarterial dexamethasone administered during uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) reduce postprocedural pain compared with placebo? In this randomized clinical trial of 40 women undergoing UFE, intraarterial dexamethasone was associated with significantly lower postprocedural pain compared with placebo. The findings of this study suggest that targeted intraarterial corticosteroid delivery addresses acute postprocedural pain, which is a primary limitation of UFE, and represents a simple, low-cost strategy with the potential to reduce analgesic burden in appropriately selected patients.
