Risk of Infections With Infliximab vs Adalimumab Among Children With Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Are there differences in the risk of serious infections or outpatient infections between infliximab and adalimumab for children and adolescents with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)?In this cohort study of 4239 pediatric patients with IBD prescribed infliximab or adalimumab, serious infections were rare and outpatient infections were more frequent. There was no evidence of a difference in the risk of either serious or outpatient infections between the 2 agents.These findings suggest that infliximab and adalimumab may have comparable infection risk profiles in pediatric IBD, but cannot rule out meaningful differences.
