A Multiregional Decentralized Clinical Trial Program to Improve Access

Upon implementing a decentralized clinical trials (DCT) program, what changes in participant demographics are observed?In this quality improvement study, which included 7469 participants accrued to 765 DCTs, an increase in clinical trial accruals of patients with residence more than 120 miles away from a multiregional academic medical center was observed during the 15 months following DCT program implementation. In addition, accruals of rural and underrepresented patient populations increased.While the expanded geographic reach and increased accrual of underserved populations observed in this study cannot be directly attributed to DCT program implementation, these directional trends suggest decentralized capabilities may be associated with enhanced participant access and representation in clinical trials.
