Maternal Respiratory Syncytial Virus Prefusion F Vaccination and Acute Respiratory Illness in Infants

What is the estimated effectiveness of maternal respiratory syncytial virus prefusion F (RSVpreF) vaccination in preventing hospitalization for RSV-associated acute respiratory illness (ARI) and lower respiratory tract disease (LRTD) among infants in the US?In this case-control study of 274 hospitalized infants aged 90 days or younger, maternal RSVpreF vaccination was associated with 68% and 69% protection against RSV-associated ARI and LRTD hospitalization, respectively.These findings suggest maternal RSVpreF vaccination provides clinical protection against RSV associated hospitalization in early infancy; however, continued data collection is critical to refine vaccine effectiveness estimates.
