Axitinib-Pembrolizumab and Adverse Event Management in Patients With Advanced Renal Cell Carcinoma

How do community oncologists approach and manage adverse events (AEs) associated with first-line axitinib plus pembrolizumab therapy for advanced renal cell carcinoma (aRCC)?In this cohort study of 300 patients with aRCC who received axitinib plus pembrolizumab and cross-sectional survey of 25 physicians, few patients required treatment dose reductions or discontinued treatment due to AEs, and physicians prioritized efficacy followed by safety when selecting first-line treatment.These findings suggest that treatment-related AEs for first-line axitinib-pembrolizumab therapy are manageable and that experienced community physicians are familiar with AE management, although further research of the effects of AE management actions on clinical outcomes is needed.
