Portal-Venous Hypothermic Oxygenated Perfusion for Liver Transplant

Does back-to-base portal-venous hypothermic oxygenated perfusion (HOPE) improve recipient outcomes compared with static cold storage alone?This randomized clinical trial included 219 adult recipients of liver transplants from both extended criteria brain-dead and circulatory-death donors at 15 US centers. HOPE resulted in reduced early allograft dysfunction compared with static cold storage alone; additionally, HOPE was associated with lower model for early allograft function score and shorter hospital stays.In this study, back-to-base portal-venous HOPE was associated with improved outcomes after liver transplant compared with static cold storage.
