Has the population prevalence of egg allergy changed since a guideline update recommending earlier introduction of egg into the infant diet? This cross-sectional study compared 2 Australian population-based samples of 1-year-old infants before (n = 5276) and after (n = 1933) the guideline update recommending earlier egg introduction. After the update, the prevalence of egg allergy decreased from 9.2% to 7.6% after adjusting for temporal changes in known allergy risk factors and using multiple imputation to address missing data, a significant difference. These findings suggest food allergy prevention guideline updates informed by randomized trial evidence may be associated with a reduction in food allergy prevalence when implemented effectively.
