Housing Attainment With the Psychiatric Assistance for Transitional Homelessness in Shelters Program

What demographic and clinical factors are associated with successful housing attainment for individuals experiencing homelessness with mental illness under an on-site psychiatric program?In this 5-year cohort study of 208 participants, 46.6% achieved housing attainment; older age was associated with greater success, whereas substance or alcohol use disorders were associated with lower likelihood of success. Distinct sex-based differences were also observed in clinical profiles and housing outcomes.These findings suggest that tailored interventions considering age, sex, and psychiatric diagnosis are essential to address the diverse needs of and improve housing outcomes among individuals experiencing homelessness in shelter-based, on-site psychiatric services.
