Early Neurodevelopmental Outcomes in Children With Congenital Heart Disease

Which clinical variables are associated with early neurodevelopmental outcomes in pediatric patients with congenital heart disease?This cross-sectional study of 868 children found clinical variables associated with neurodevelopmental outcomes included the presence of a genetic diagnosis, cardiac diagnosis, birth weight, sex, age at repair, length of stay, number of catheterizations, primary caregiver education, and Child Opportunity Index.This study’s results suggest that while the presence of a genetic diagnosis is associated with outcomes, early repair may be a variable of interest for future studies investigating neuroprotective strategies in congenital heart disease.
