Use of PCSK9 Inhibitors Among Patients Receiving Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors for Cancer

Among adults with non–small cell lung cancer, melanoma, or renal cell carcinoma receiving immune checkpoint inhibitors, is concomitant use of a proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitor associated with improved clinical outcomes compared with high-intensity statin therapy?In this comparative effectiveness study of 239 propensity score–matched pairs of patients, PCSK9 inhibitor use was associated with improved all-cause mortality and reduced levels of acute health care utilization, without significant differences in major adverse cardiovascular events.These findings warrant prospective evaluation of PCSK9 inhibition as a potential adjunct to immune checkpoint inhibitors.
