Cost-Effectiveness of Oral Nicotinamide for Keratinocyte Carcinoma Prevention

Is oral nicotinamide, 500 mg, twice daily a cost-effective strategy for preventing multiple keratinocyte carcinoma (KC) compared to no supplementation?In this economic evaluation of 33 822 individuals within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), nicotinamide use was associated with 624 prevented KCs yearly, resulting in a differential cost of −$58 426 per quality-adjusted life-year gained and a differential cost of $14 407 per quality-adjusted life-year gained under non-VHA cost assumptions, while preserving more than 8 Skindex-16 symptom points per KC in and out of the VHA.Oral nicotinamide shows promise as a cost-effective and patient-centered supplement for reducing KC burden in individuals with KC history.
