Lipoprotein(a), Inflammation, and Risk of Coronary Artery Disease and Aortic Valve Stenosis

Do inflammatory biomarkers modify lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)]–associated risk for coronary artery disease (CAD) and aortic valve stenosis (AS)?In this primary prevention cohort study, Lp(a)-associated risk for incident CAD was modified by interleukin 6 (IL-6). No inflammatory biomarkers significantly modified Lp(a)-associated risk of AS.These findings support IL-6 as a biomarker of inflammatory risk that may inform targeted prevention strategies, including among those with elevated Lp(a).
