Bempedoic Acid and Venous Thromboembolism Risk Among Statin-Intolerant Patients

Among statin-intolerant patients at high risk for or with established cardiovascular disease, is bempedoic acid associated with a reduced risk of venous thromboembolism?In a post hoc analysis of a randomized clinical trial enrolling 13 970 participants in 32 countries, treatment with bempedoic acid, 180 mg daily, was associated with a significantly lower incidence of venous thromboembolism compared with placebo.These findings suggest that in addition to established major adverse cardiovascular event risk reduction, treatment with bempedoic acid has the potential to reduce venous thromboembolism risk.
